What is Hijama and its benefits?
If you ever wondered what cupping or Hijama is and how it may heal you, here are couple of points and information about it that may help you decide if this treatment is for you.
Cupping therapy is a remedial treatment practiced to treat imbalances in the human body. It is an excellent form of preventive and curative therapy for majority of illness and it helps to boost the immune system, cleanse and detoxify the body. Cupping therapy has been used for centuries and has spread across many nations around the world.
Traditional healers have long recognized the association between pain and conditions of congestion, stagnation and blockage. An old Chinese medical maxim states:
‘Where there’s stagnation, there will be pain. Remove the stagnation, and you remove the pain.’
Is Hijama a Sunnah?
Hijama cupping therapy is known as a Prophetic Medicine and was established and introduced in Saudi Arabia over 1400 years ago. There are many authentic narrations whereby Hijama Cupping is prescribed to the nation and that there is a cure in it. Hijama Cupping is similar to the Chinese Cupping Therapy but is also different due to it being a religious recommendation.
Is cupping therapy safe?
It is a safe procedure that does not take very long, anywhere from 30mins to 1 hour. Depending on how many cups applied. There is no known major side effects as long as you go to a qualified practitioner but you will get some bruising and it may feel a little sore and itchy. This will go in a day or few days. The superficial scratches usually fade within 3 weeks and does not usually result in scarring if the appropriate after care advice has been adhered to. However, a very small percentage of individuals may incur scarring due to their skin type or failure to follow the after care advice. Certain areas of the body are more sensitive than others, so there maybe minimal discomfort due to the application of scratches to the patient’s skin surface. The odd few people that experience slightly more discomfort can take pain relief or consult their GP.
It definitely does not feel as bad as it looks, most people describe it as light scratches, some say its therapeutic/relaxing and others find it hysterical.
